The Meditation Community was founded in 2006 and inspired by the Brown University Contemplative Studies Initiative and by a three month silent meditation retreat at the Insight Meditation Society.

The purpose of this site is to help people become aware of how their minds constantly resist this moment by projecting happiness as a goal for the future or something that existed in the past. Becoming aware of this tendency of the mind, and accepting it, is the only avenue into peace and true happiness.

Perhaps it goes without saying but nothing on this site should be taken as a definitive truth, it is simply my experience, and it is certainly not medical advice and is not meant to take the place of advice or treatment by a medical doctor. Please be sure to see your physician or psychologist for any conditions that require medical care.

“The beginning of freedom is the realization that you are not 'the thinker.' The moment you start watching the thinker, a higher level of consciousness becomes activated.

You also realize that all the things that truly matter - beauty, love, creativity, joy, inner peace - arise from beyond the mind.

You begin to awaken.”

-Eckhart Tolle
